The ASHI Standards are the recognized “Gold Standard” of the Home Inspection industry. Established in 1976, ASHI is the largest and most respected professional association in North America, with 6,000 members.

Structural System |
Inspect the visible skeleton of the home, including the building’s foundation, walls, floors and roof. |

Roof |
Inspect roof covering material, check roof penetrations (Ex. vent stacks) and flashings for damage or defects. |

Exterior |
Inspect siding, exposed foundation, windows, porchs, decks, downspouts and lot drainage. |
|
Interior |
Inspect fit and finish for indications of structural issues and water leakage not otherwise visible. |

Electrical |
Inspect electrical service entrance, service panels, service grounding, distribution wires, outlets and switches. |

Plumbing |
Inspect water service entrance, water distribution, water heater, waste water piping, sump pump and plumbing fixtures. |

Heating System |
Inspect heating appliance, fuel delivery system, ventilation system, heat distribution system and thermostats. |
|
Central A/C |
Inspect operation (if above 65°F). Inspect condenser location, condition and verify that it is level, & air distribution regardless of temperature. |

Insulation/Ventilation |
Inspect visible insulation and vapor barrier for entire building. Inspect attic and crawlspace ventilation, inspect whole house fans if present. |

Safety Recommendations |
Inspect railings and stairs for uniformity. Inspect exterior doors and locks. Inspect smoke and fire alarms to ensure functionality. |
A typical inspection might take 3 to 5 hours, depending on what is discovered and the level of detail required for your report.
